The past two weeks in ISM have been incredible! After much deliberation, I have finally chosen skin cancer as the focus for my research and app development. One of the main reasons I opted for skin cancer is the practicality—capturing images of the skin using just a phone camera is much simpler than with other cancer types I considered. Additionally, there are a lot of skin cancer datasets available, which will streamline the data collection phase. I have already compiled a preliminary list of datasets that I plan to use to train my AI model. As I dive deeper into the research, I will continue refining this list, adding new datasets and removing others as needed. Alongside dataset exploration, I have also been reading several research papers on the use of AI in skin cancer detection. One paper that stood out to me discussed an app similar to what I am working on developed for public use, followed by an analysis of the data collected. This real-world application gave me valuable insight into potential challenges I might face during deployment. Currently, I am tackling some questions from this research, and I am working to find solutions. Before I begin training the model, I plan to continue learning and refining my approach to ensure success.
